The Artist

Tadeusz Seidel

Born in Poland, Tadeusz Seidel grew up in Warsaw, where he was exposed to the classical forms of art. Tadeusz received great encouragement to develop his artistic skills from his father, Teodor, himself an artist and educator. Tadeusz credits his father with teaching him to look at the world with open eyes and to acknowledge nature as an infinite source of inspiration. After immigrating to the United States, Tadeusz served as an apprentice for seven years to the world-renowned seascape painter Charles Vickery. Vickery's mastery of craft and his kindness and humane outlook undeniably magnified Tadeusz's potential as a painter.

"Ted Seidel is an artist making himself known as a marine artist who also does fine portraits. The art world is opening for him and he will be exhibiting in some galleries soon where his renditions of ships and the sea will reveal fresh talent for the world."
     - Master Artist Charles Vickery, 1996

Tadeusz Seidel has devoted himself to the observation of the world. His technical versatility, original use of color, and the curious perspectives found in all of his oil paintings ensure an unforgettable artistic experience for a viewer of any taste.

"I have known Tadeusz Seidel for several years. My knowledge of him has to do with his work as a well-trained painter. The canvases I have seen emanate from a strong reliance upon the European academic tradition in art. Accordingly, Tadeusz's images are not avant garde but reflections of 19th and early 20th century realism in which he seeks beauty from subjects around him. Mostly these are common personalities and scenes made vital by his expressive interpretations. Indeed his imagery hints of old world Poland yet boasts proudly of a bold American heritage. Without a doubt Tadeusz has discovered the strengths of his adoptive land. And if some of this nation's strengths must come from the brushes of a wide-eye seeker of its traditional genre, so be it, for in this a goal is from the same idealism that resulted in great art of the past two centuries.

Tadeusz demonstrates a masterful handling of of a fully loaded brush revealing a bold, imposto surface which is to say the least, impressive. In his burgeoning career, Tadeusz has proven that the tradition of representational art in America is alive and well. I predict that as he travels his artist path, he will make new discoveries and these canvases will continue to impress others as they have impressed me. I trust the contemporary art world will acknowledge his contribution to American art."
